Movie audience fail

Transformers 2 has already beaten Star Trek 2009 in world wide box office by over 200 million dollars. Star Trek is a much, much better movie in terms of story, acting and generally being more family friendly. *sigh*

I can't believe I actually wasted $10 to see Transformers 2.

Status of my lack of online life

I've officially made it through 2 three day weekends sans computer. I feel crazy cut off and it's making me cranky. Sorry if I haven't been commenting or being social lately, I shall return and be talky and stuff sometime next week *crosses fingers* If I'm really lucky, late this week. Don't really think that's going to happen, but hope springs eternal.

*hugs to flist*

In case you missed the previous post, my personal computer died and I'm currently waiting on a new one from Dell.

What was your first word?

Oddly enough, "more." Not sure what exactly that says about my personality. To be fair, I could also sign language "please" and "thank you" at that point.

Iran Updates

You can continue to read live blogging updates here and here. The two articles I find interesting are written by two female Iranian journalist on the ground in Tehran.

IRAN: The Day of Confrontation and Clarity
IRAN: "The Streets Were Overtaken by Tear Gas"

I'm looking for a link I had a few days ago about support walks and demonstrations around the world but I can't seem to find it right now.

Word

Women like comics. Girls like comics. And science fiction. And fantasy. And action flicks. And dramas. And comedies. And sports. And Dungeons & Dragons. And WoW. And every other genre out there with the sole possible exception of whatever the hell genre Manswers qualifies as...

So why do we keep having to remind people that we're here? Why do we keep having to bring up, in front of guys who have been chatting with us about this show or book for years that why, yes, women are in the audience? Why do we keep having to point out from the front row that, wow, the content we squeed about last week is massively offensive towards women this week? Why do conventions still have trouble establishing and enforcing sexual harassment policies? Why do networks disregard us in the viewership numbers when we're half the audience? Why do we have to be the ones pointing out that, in fact, someone would catch a cold fighting crime on rooftops wearing that in the winter? Why do we have to argue again and again that skintight tops and fishnets and thongs and breasts that defy gravity and waists that defy the existence of internal organs might titillate the guys in the audience but continue to drive away potential new female readers every time they see a cover?...

Why is this still a problem? Why do companies still think that guys are the only ones interested in all the bright and shiny toys? Why do we have to stand up and shout "We are here! We are here! We are here!" like the Whos down in Whoville when we've clearly been here the whole time?

Stupid people not getting the point

I keep hearing from various sources that it doesn't matter that Ahmadinejad "won" because Mousavi isn't really any better (for various reasons depending on who you listen to). This is not the point people! The point is the election is a farce, the votes didn't get counted and the will of the people of Iran was circumvented. Those millions of people demonstrating on the streets of Iran just want their voices to be heard and the leader that was truly elected to be president. It's about the corruption of the government, the Supreme Leader pulling all the strings and so much more. I hope Mousavi's the better choice, but in the end, that's not what matters. The people of Iran getting heard by their government and the world, that's what matters.

Also, all the comparisons between this election and the 2000 US election debacle in Florida...WTF? Not even close people.

The Green Revolution - Iran, Election Fraud, and Protests

I see several of the folks on my flist are following what's going on in Iran with the fallout from the obvious election fraud that's been committed there. Below are pics and links so you can catch up. The people of Iran deserve to be able to choose their leader through a legitimate election and are protesting peacefully to have their voices heard. The opposition hasn't been as peaceful and people have died. Yet still they march, some reports say anywhere from half to three million people.

Live Blogging of Events in Iran and the Reactions from Around the World

Well worth reading. Anything I could say to cover this revolution cannot capture what these bloggers have done. Go, read, be informed.

Follow on Twitter (reliable sources):

@ProtesterHelp and @StopAhmadi

How can you help?

  1. The most obvious thing to do is stay informed. Keep an eye on reliable sources on Twitter, refresh blogs and news sites that are covering the stories.

  2. If you are on twitter, retweet information from reliable twitters, but REMOVE THE USERNAME if they are in Iran. People have died because of the lack of responsibility by fellow tweeters and the media in this front. They can be tracked down by the government of Iran.

  3. Spread the information elsewhere. Repost this article or write your own on Facebook, Myspace, Tumblr, or anywhere else you can think of. If you write your own, make sure you are concise and accurate. Link to your sources for people to learn more.

  4. Change your location on Twitter to Tehran or Iran, and your time zone to GMT +3:30.

  5. DO NOT auto-refresh and take down websites, even if you are asked. It slows down the internet for the rest of the people in Iran.

  6. If you make a proxy DO NOT post it publically, otherwise it is useless. Send it in a direct message to a trusted source.

  7. DO NOT spam the hash tag #IranElection with useless things to "confuse the government". This does not help at all.

So noTORIous

So I was having a crappy day yesterday. I got home and the two disk complete series of So noTORIous was in my mailbox from Netflix. New Zachary Quinto stuff to watch, that improved my day quite a bit. The show itself fixed my mood altogether and it was a mood that could have ruined the rest of the week but I was happy as a clam by the time I went to sleep last night.

More stuff about the show )

Fave thing? There are outtakes for every single episode and they're hilarious.

Zachary Quinto has eaten my brain

For reals. I watched the entirety of Season 1 of Heroes over the weekend and I'm starting Season 2 this evening (thank you Target for your sale of the two season pack for $35). Also, I have So noTORIous (even though I'm really not a fan of Tori Spelling) coming from Netflix just 'cause ZQ is in it. I blame Star Trek and ZQ for being so awesome.

Star Trek 2009 is made of awesome

I kid you not people, it's addictive...best drug ever. Every time I think I'm going to go see another movie I go see Star Trek instead. This is why I've seen ST three times and haven't made it to see Wolverine yet.

I was so worried about this movie. I'm a bit of a Trekkie and the whole "reboot, new actors, blah, blah" thing on top of this being an odd numbered movie (which tend to suck) had me thinking it was doomed. I was so, so wrong and have never been more happy to be totally wrong.

Just in case you haven't seen it...which means you should go to the theater right now to remedy that situation )

I want to go see it again! Many, many more times. Also, currently watching TOS on Netflix streaming. I have a Trek addiction problem and I don't wanna go to rehab :)
